Elite Indonesian Troops "Kopassus" Prepare for High-Stakes Papua Deployment

Hundreds of elite Indonesian Kopassus troops prepare have completed their pre-assignment training at the Special Forces Education Center (Pusdiklatpassus) in Batujajar, West Java. They are ready to be deployed to Papua to carry out the RI-Papua New Guinea (PNG) border security task (Satgas Pamtas).

Kopassus Commander Major General TNI Eris Widodo Y.B., S.E., M.Tr(Han)., in his official statement on Wednesday (21/2), said that the Kopassus troops have been trained in various materials specifically designed to deal with the situation in Papua.

“This training includes combat capabilities in the mountains and jungles of Papua, survival and adaptation skills in extreme environments, tactics and strategies for fighting separatist groups, and knowledge of the culture and customs of the Papuan people,” said the Kopassus Commander.

Fierce fighting is predicted to occur.
