GardaMilitary – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, during a visit to Moldova today, Thursday, that his country is ready to be part of NATO, and that Kiev is waiting for the defense bloc to be ready to annex it.
Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s desire to join the European Union after arriving in Moldova, which borders his country, to attend a summit of more than 40 European leaders.
What did Zelensky say:
- We ask the allies to provide us with Patriot air defense systems and air fighters.
- No region of Europe is safe from war.
- Doubts about Ukraine’s accession to NATO put Europe at risk.
The summit is set to show support for the two countries, Ukraine and Moldova, as Kiev prepares to launch a counterattack on Russian forces.
“We support Moldova and its people in their integration with the European Union. You supported our people and refugees who fled in the first days of the war, and we will never forget that,” Zelensky said, flanked by Moldova’s President Maya Sandu, according to Reuters.
“Our future is in the European Union. Ukraine is also ready to join NATO,” he added.
Molodova is hosting the European Political Community summit in a castle about 20 km from Ukrainian territory.
