Garda Military News – Amid a warm welcome, North Korea received its guest, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, who arrived in Pyongyang in the first visit by a foreign official to the country since the coronavirus pandemic.
Sergey Shoygu met with his North Korean counterpart and reaffirmed that Moscow would enhance its military cooperation with Pyongyang, emphasizing the historical and significant partnership between the two nations.
This visit comes at a time when hostilities between Russia and the West have intensified due to the war in Ukraine, which North Korea has supported since its inception.
So, what message do Moscow and Pyongyang want to convey to Washington through this cooperation?
In this regard, David De Roche, an expert at the Middle East Studies Center, saying:
“What is interesting is the size of the Russian delegation, led by Defense Minister Shoygu, whereas the Chinese delegation was smaller and did not have prominent figures.”
“It is a celebration of the end of the Korean War, and Russia and China played a major role in providing arms and manpower to North Korea, so it is natural for them to attend the celebration.”
“Russia also wants to send a message to the world that it has partners and countries that can provide it with ammunition and weapons to continue the war in Ukraine.”
On the other hand, former State Duma member Sergey Markov believed that there was “no message” Moscow was trying to send to the world through this visit.
He added in his statements
“There is no message. Russia does not want to send any messages to Washington or the European Union because we don’t talk to them, and they lie a lot.”
“The level of Russia’s delegation is very high, as Russia is engaged in a fierce war in former Ukrainian territories, so it is important for the Defense Minister to travel and act at such a time (indicating that Russia is not cornered in this war).”
“North Korea has a large number of missiles, and if it gives just 10 percent of these missiles to Russia, it will greatly help the Russian army in the coming months.”
“Russia is also interested in volunteers from North Korea, as the Russian army is fighting the US-affiliated Ukrainian army, while South Korea, affiliated with the United States, is an enemy of North Korea.”
